The RGT acoustic guitar playing grades take you through the basics with open chords and then onto barre chords. There are traditional songs and melodies to learn and perform. Covering traditional blues and folk style finger picking techniques and takes an in-depth look at strumming patterns. It is well structured and offers a different series of disciplines to the electric RGT grades.
The RGT also offers a series of theory exams and accompanying books.

A good tutor will assess the student's standard of knowledge in accordance to the RGT grading system, which will define what grade level the student should study. It is often worth studying a grade that stretches your ability. As a guideline it usually takes a period of about three months to study and prepare for the exam.
